What to Expect in Your First Brainspotting Session
You’ve taken the courses.
You’ve built the plans.
You’ve even done the mindset work.
And yet... every time you get close to taking that next big step—hitting publish, raising your prices, showing up fully—you freeze, procrastinate, or second-guess yourself.
It's not because you’re lazy.
It's not because you're unmotivated.
It's because your nervous system is protecting you.
If you're exploring Brainspotting Therapy to break through those invisible emotional blocks once and for all, you might wonder:
"What actually happens during a Brainspotting session?"
"Will I have to talk about everything?"
"Will it feel overwhelming?"
You’re not alone in wondering—and I want to walk you through exactly what to expect, so you can show up feeling prepared, safe, and empowered.
Before Your First Brainspotting Session: A Dedicated Intake Meeting
Before we dive into Brainspotting, we’ll begin with a separate intake session.
This intake session is designed to:
Talk through what’s been feeling stuck, heavy, or overwhelming
Gather important information about your goals, your business, and your nervous system patterns
Create emotional safety, so you’re fully supported before we start deeper work
Many of my clients tell me they feel relief after the intake, simply knowing they’ll be seen, heard, and guided with care right from the start.
Your healing journey deserves thoughtfulness—and that’s exactly how we’ll begin.

See what happens in an actual Brainspotting session.
To help you feel even more at ease, I created a short video where you can watch me gently guide someone through the start of a Brainspotting session.
You’ll see exactly how calm, client-led, and empowering the process is—no pressure, no rush, just working with your natural pace.
Brainspotting Is Not Traditional Talk Therapy
Brainspotting isn’t about analyzing your thoughts or telling your story over and over.
It’s about gently accessing the places where your brain and body have stored emotional survival patterns…like overwhelm, procrastination, fear of success, or visibility blocks, and allowing them to complete naturally.
You won’t be pushed to relive trauma.
You won’t be forced to talk about anything you don't want to.
You are fully in control at every moment.
Setting the Stage: What Happens During Your Brainspotting Session
When we meet for your first Brainspotting session (after the intake), we’ll start by helping you settle into a place of safety and focus.
I’ll gently ask:
What feels most present today?
How does your body feel when you think about your current goal or block?
Is there a sensation, emotion, or image standing out?
Then, we’ll find a “brainspot”—an eye position that connects with the stuck emotional energy you’re ready to process.
Your brain and nervous system already know what to do from there.
You don't have to force anything.
You can pause, shift, or stop at any time—you’re always in charge.
The Core of the Session: Focused Presence, Gentle Processing
As you maintain the brainspot, you may notice:
Physical sensations like tingling, warmth, or heaviness
Emotions like sadness, anger, or fear surfacing naturally
Memories or flashes of insight
Or simply deep stillness
There’s no "wrong" way to experience Brainspotting.
I’ll be holding a safe space, checking in as needed, but never interrupting your natural processing.
Many people describe it as one of the most calming and self-directed experiences they've ever had, even when big emotions move through.
Ending the Session: Integration and Grounding
Before closing, we’ll:
Gently check in on how you’re feeling physically and emotionally
Help you come back fully into the present moment
Offer grounding techniques if needed
You might leave feeling lighter, clearer, tired, emotional, or simply peaceful.
Every reaction is valid and part of your nervous system, completing what it once couldn’t finish.
You’ll also receive simple, optional suggestions to support integration after your session if you choose.
Common Myths About Brainspotting Therapy (And the Truth)
Myth: "I’ll have to relive my trauma to heal."
Reality: Brainspotting allows your brain to process emotional pain without forcing you to relive it or rehash the story. Healing happens gently, at the pace your nervous system feels safe to go.
Myth: "I need to know exactly what’s wrong before I start."
Reality: You don't have to have all the answers. Your body and brain already know where the work needs to happen, whether or not you can name it. Brainspotting taps into that deeper knowing.
Myth: "If I get emotional during the session, it means I’m doing it wrong."
Reality: Feeling emotional is a normal, healthy part of releasing stuck energy. It's a sign your nervous system is moving through what once felt impossible, not a sign of weakness or failure.
